Laser Vision Correction

Laser vision correction is an option for patients who are looking for alternatives to glasses and contact lenses to treat common vision problems (nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism). Many patients find their best vision after laser vision correction is the same as with their glasses or contact lenses. Some find it’s even better.

In general, good candidates for laser vision correction:

  • Are at least 21 years old
  • Have healthy eyes
  • Have stable vision for 6 - 12 months prior to the procedure
  • Understand that they may still require reading glasses after age 40
  • Are willing to commit to follow-up care

How does it work?

Laser vision correction is performed with an excimer laser. This ultraviolet laser creates a cool beam of laser light. Your Physicians Eye Clinic surgeon uses computer-controlled pulses of the laser light to reshape the eye to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

The procedure is done at an eye surgery center and takes approximately five minutes per eye.
